Mouth Ulcer Treatment : How to Get Rid of Mouth Ulcer

Mouth ulcer, also known as Oral ulcer, is the erosion of the delicate lining tissue of the mucus membrane. Generally it is caused by accidentally biting the cheek, viral, fungal or bacterial infections and may last from anywhere between two days to four weeks. Mouth ulcers in few cases might go away by themselves but generally they are painful and require immediate treatment. They cause immense difficulty in eating, plus are much more painful than expected.

Preventing Mouth Ulcer
The best way of preventing mouth ulcers is to maintain right dental hygiene. It is important to brush your teeth at least twice a day. Dentist recommends changing of toothbrush every 3 months. It is important to floss, use antibacterial mouthwash and visit the dentist on regular basis. A well balanced diet is important in preventing mouth ulcer.
A regular check on underlying conditions, like diabetes mellitus and inflammatory bowel disease should be managed appropriately.

Mouth Ulcer Treatment

Keep your mouth clean; flossing, mouthwash and brushing teeth twice daily is important.
Drink plenty of water to drink every day.
Avoid spicy food until the ulcer cure.
Rinse your mouth with warm and slightly salted water.
Applying mouth gel or medicines like paracetamol help in curing ulcer and reducing the pain.
Anti viral drugs and anti-fungal drugs are helpful for treating mouth ulcer caused by viral and fungal infection respectively.

If the mouth ulcer does not cure within few days, or if occur frequently, it is advisable to see the doctor.
